Rangers are planning to make a player-plus-cash offer to secure Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, according to the Daily Record.
The paper reported via its online edition on Monday (July 22) that the Light Blues might look to sweeten a move for long-term target Shankland by offering a member of their own first-team squad in exchange.
Shankland, 28, is into the final 12 months of his contract at Tynecastle but the Record says Rangers will still need to move some of their squad on before signing the Scotland striker to balance the books.
Who could leave Rangers this summer?
Rangers need to raise funds to secure Shankland, and it looks like some big names might be leaving to make it happen.
James Tavernier, the skipper, seems like a prime candidate [Sunday Post, July 21, back page]. With Trabzonspor’s interest and Steven Gerrard keen to bring him to Al-Ettifaq, his exit could bring in significant cash. Tavernier’s departure would be a blow, but it might be necessary to balance the books.
Connor Goldson is another player who might be on the move. He’s attracting attention from Aris Limassol and Birmingham City [Football Scotland, July 22]. While Birmingham would require him to take a pay cut, Goldson could still bring in enough funds if he finds the right club.
Then there’s Ianis Hagi, who is not in Philippe Clement’s plans. Fiorentina’s interest could turn into a £3million offer, which would go a long way in funding Shankland’s transfer [Daily Record, July 22].
These potential exits might be tough for fans to swallow, but they could be the key to bringing in a top scorer like Shankland.
In other Rangers news, the club are now set to make a bid to seal summer transfer No.7 with James Tavernier’s sale funding it.
