Rangers could convince Plymouth Argyle to sell Morgan Whittaker this summer by offering £10million plus add-ons, according to pundit Carlton Palmer.

The Daily Record reported (19July) that the Gers had an initial £7m bid for the Plymouth forward rejected but are likely to come back with a second offer.

Whittaker scored 19 Championship goals last season and Palmer thinks there is a good chance the 23-year-old heads to Ibrox this summer.

Speaking to Football League World on Tuesday (July 23), Palmer said: “If Whittaker has made his feelings known, I would think an improved offer – say they came back with £10million and add-ons – I think it’s likely that we see Plymouth Argyle’s Morgan Whittaker heading to Glasgow Rangers.”

Are Rangers finally set to secure Morgan Whittaker?

The Light Blues fans must be buzzing with speculation about a possible new addition to their forward line. Philippe Clement is keen to bolster his attack, especially with Cyriel Dessers not living up to expectations.

Whittaker now seems to be the Gers’ prime target. Rangers previously had a bid over £7m rejected, but they’re expected to come back with an improved offer.

Whittaker has been impressive, earning Plymouth’s Player of the Year. However, as to be expected, Plymouth’s boss Wayne Rooney wants to keep him, unless a “crazy bid” comes in [PlymouthLive, July 21].

On the other hand, Whittaker himself is reportedly interested in the move to Scotland [Daily Record, July 19], and there is not much point in keeping a player who will be unhappy.

The Gers initially offered over £7million for Whittaker, but Plymouth rejected it.

In order to finally secure their man, Rangers’ strategy might include selling captain James Tavernier to raise funds for Whittaker. And, with Trabzonspor interested in Tavernier [Daily Record, July 19], this could pave the way for Whittaker’s arrival.

But, only time will tell if Rangers can finally secure the talented winger, especially given the figures being bandied about to sign him.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement could now reverse his “fatally flawed” decision not to sign Lawrence Shankland.
