Rangers fans are not happy with the board after it was confirmed they would move to Hampden Park while work continues on the Ibrox renovations.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained that the fans will not be happy with moving away from their home, even if it is only for a short spell.

However, he described the situation as “the best of a bad job” and suggested the situation had been taken out of the club’s hands.

Renovations to Ibrox were initially expected to take place over the summer, before delays in receiving materials saw the construction work pushed back into the start of the season.

Rangers announced that they would spend the “early part of the 2024-25 season” at Hampden Park, with suggestions of a return as early as September.

Robinson suggested that any return date may even have been overestimated, hinting that a return could be possible even earlier.

What is seen as yet another error by the board amid increasing tensions will only stretch the club’s relationship with the fans.

Robinson has insisted the supporters will not be pleased with the situation, although the upside would be that they will remain in Glasgow.

There are no bonuses from it, but it’s the best of a bad job,” he told Football Insider.

It’s not ideal that they won’t be at their own stadium, with the history of Ibrox. Fans like to have their own seat. People have sat in those seats for most of their lives.

There will be discontent and it will cause upsets, but you can understand why they’ve had to do it.

It’s not an ideal situation. They’ve put an end date in September, and it’s easy to overestimate.

Tottenham didn’t have a problem at Wembley. The fans enjoyed going there, but it was a little bit different because they had a new stadium being built.

But for Rangers, fans will be disgruntled.

The work should’ve been done out of season and completed before the season starts, to start the season in their own home.

The biggest thing that softens the blow is that it’s in Glasgow. They won’t have to travel to Murrayfield every week, but the sooner they can get back to Ibrox, the better.”
