Rangers have secured a £3million profit to shift Jose Cifuentes on a new loan move with an obligation to buy but it could have been even more, according to The 4th Official.

The online outlet indicated via Patreon on 26 July that with the Ecuador midfielder set for Aris Thessaloniki with a permanent £4.2m deal at the end there should not be surprise at the size of the fee.

It is claimed the 25-year-old’s value has only dropped after a miserable year since joining the Light Blues and he was worth far more than that prior to moving to Glasgow.

Exit action is now increasing as Connor Goldson is on the way to Aris Limassol and as a result of the upturn in activity “concrete” incoming developments are predicted “very soon”.

Jose Cifuentes to leave Rangers permanently for Aris Thessaloniki

Cifuentes was originally expected to complete a permanent move to Cruzeiro after his loan in January as manager Nicolas Larcamon indicated his confidence the option would be triggered [Daily Record, 10 February].

Instead the move proved to be possibly even less successful than his Gers signing by Michael Beale as he started just one league game in Brazil, from 12 total appearances, and was substituted at half time, before Larcamon was sacked in April.

The Daily Record therefore reported on 9 July his return to Ibrox was likely which was likely to only cause a new headache for Philippe Clement in having another playing stuck at the club with no future in his side.

So for the Light Blues to have already found him another move which ties up his long-term future and lands a substantial profit on his £1.2m fee from a year ago [Sky Sports] is a huge positive.

Jose Cifuentes, Rangers
Jose Cifuentes was signed by Michael Beale a year ago but struggled at Rangers.

There has been precious little positive news coming out of Ibrox for a few weeks now as rough preseason form and the stadium debacle played out amid frustrations in the transfer window.

But with a series of moves away now finally starting to come together the Cifuentes news is a surprise bonus.

He never proved to be what Beale had indicated for the club, although an unfortunate soft red card at a crucial point arguably contributed to that, but his signing from LAFC as his contract ran down has at least turned into a player-trading success.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues have made a new offer for another signing after Vaclav Cerny.
