Rangers like Bojan Miovski amid update with Dessers exit on the cards - report

Rangers would like to sign Bojan Miovski but a deal for the striker is unlikely due to potential difficulties in negotiating with Aberdeen, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

A report on the paper’s website on 1 July indicates that with Cyriel Dessers potentially on the way out as PAOK pursue a move there may be a “hole up front that needs to be filled” at Ibrox.

However, despite North Macedonian star Miovski being an option the Light Blues like they are said to be wary of being “held to ransom” by the Dons due to the rivalry between the two sides.

Rangers are already trying to negotiate a compensation fee with the Pittodrie club after signing Connor Barron, with a tribunal on the cards if agreement can’t be reached, and Aberdeen have already rejected a £525,000 offer [Scottish Sun, 25 June].

Connor Barron already subject to Rangers and Aberdeen talks

Miovski, 25, wouldn’t be cheap whoever he played for but would at least likely retain some reasonable sell-on value if he was a success for a couple of seasons at Ibrox, unlike Hearts counterpart Lawrence Shankland.

But if the Gers aren’t willing to overspend on the latter despite him being interested in the move and surely far more affordable then it would be a surprise for Nils Koppen and company to wade into an attempt to bring in the former.

Communications between the clubs are at least open already thanks to the signing of Barron after his Pittodrie contract expired, so the subject of Miovski could easily be broached.

But if agreement is proving hard to come by with regards to the young midfielder who has already left Aberdeen then the chances of reaching it on their star man who has two years left on his deal seems a stretch.

Rangers Cyriel Dessers
Cyriel Dessers scored 22 goals for Rangers but could leave after one season.

Danilo is returning from injury and Hamza Igamane is on the way in but if Dessers follows the expected departure of Sam Lammers [Rangers Review, 29 May], and a deal to bring Abdallah Sima back, which the Mail notes has “gone cold”, proves impossible there is a clear need for more goals in attack.

Miovski and Shankland are both proven Scottish Premiership sources of just that, and while one seems far more obtainable than the other it remains to be seen if the Gers make a move for either.

In other Ranger news, the Light Blues are now expected to have a “monster” signing at Ibrox for next season soon.
