The decision to move the kick-off time for Rangers versus St Johnstone at Ibrox next month is a “logistical nightmare”, according to Rangers Review.
The Scottish Premiership match between the two sides on Sunday 6 October will remain on the same day, but has been confirmed to have been moved to an 8pm start.
This is predominantly down to the Great Scottish Run taking place in Glasgow on the same day.
Rangers Review shared on their website [4 September]: “The game, always scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 6 due to Rangers’ participation in Europe, will now start at 8pm following a logistical nightmare with the Great Scottish Run taking place in Glasgow on the same day.”
Rangers fans suffer Ibrox setback
Whilst Rangers fans and players alike are desperate to return home from Hampden Park to Ibrox, another spanner in the works like this is far from ideal.
Both sets of supporters – including the visitors who will largely be travelling from Perth on a Sunday night – have appeared an afterthought in the decision-making process, with options mooted such as reversing the fixture and keeping it at its original kick-off time of 3pm.
The match is scheduled to be broadcast live on Premier Sports, which could act as some respite for those who can no longer make the trip.
The Gers’ European participation meant the match had been moved back to the Sunday in the first place, but the time at which it will begin is the tricky trial for fans, who have been acknowledged in a club statement on the matter.
The club are still hoping to return to their home stadium in time to host Dundee on Saturday 21 September, in the Scottish League Cup quarter-finals.
