Rangers on 'Red Alert' as club now open to transfer offers for Ibrox-linked striker - report

Rangers will be on “red alert” after Bristol City made a new transfer decision over Scottish international Tommy Conway, according to Bristol Live.

The outlet reported on Tuesday (11 June) that the Championship side are open to offers for the striker this summer having grown frustrated by his decision not to extend his current contract at Ashton Gate.

Both the Light Blues and Celtic hold an interest in the 21-year-old while Wolves and Leicester City are among the Premier League clubs keeping tabs on his development ahead of the summer transfer window.

Conway is aware of his contract situation with the club and it appears that his ambition remains to leave Ashton Gate to test himself at a new club.

While Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen have moved quickly to strengthen both in defence and the wide areas of the field, there will be a feeling around Ibrox that a new number nine has to be found before the start of next season.

Cyriel Dessers improved as the season wore on in Glasgow, but the Nigerian doesn’t have the clinical edge required to fire the Light Blues to the title. There will be hope Danilo can impress when fully fit, but the jury remains out.

With Kemar Roofe’s departure already confirmed, Sam Lammers’ future lying elsewhere and a move for Lawrence Shankland looking unlikely at this time, attention will have to turn to other targets and that could well include Conway.

The Scottish international may have a modest record in the Championship, but for his age, he has already played a lot of senior football and there is a feeling in England that he could be a real talent with the right service.

With a year left on his deal, Rangers may be able to secure his services for a cut price. It just remains to be seen whether their interest transforms into a genuine offer.
