Rangers want to sign Austria international - Sky Sports

Flavius Daniliuc is “in the sights” of Rangers with the club looking to sign the Salernitana defender this summer, according to Sky Sports Austria.

Florian Plettenberg reported that the Gers are interested in bringing the 23-year-old to Ibrox, following his loan spell at Red Bull Salzburg during the second half of last season.

Capable of playing both centre-half and right-back, Daniliuc is under contract with Salernitana until 2026, although RB Salzburg does have the option to buy the Austrian international following his loan.

Daniliuc reportedly has a market value of roughly £5million and featured on 12 occasions for Salzburg from January onwards, with Rangers waiting to see if Die Roten Bullen will sign him permanently.

Daniliuc transfer would continue defensive rebuild at Rangers

If Salzburg decide against permanently bringing Daniliuc to the Red Bull Arena, the door is open for Philippe Clement’s side to add him to their fast-growing defensive stocks.

Clement has been given significant autonomy to carry out a full squad overhaul at Ibrox this summer, with the Belgian giving early attention to his side’s defence [The Scotsman].

Despite only conceding 27 league goals last season, Clement has wasted no time in adding Brazilian left-back Jefte to the Ibrox ranks, with another left-sided defender in Thomas Galdames also being pursued [EnCancha].

Connor Goldson and James Tavernier have both been linked with moves abroad as their Gers careers wind down, and such transfers would leave gaps to fill on the right-hand side of Clement’s back four [Keith Jackson].

An Austrian international capable of playing for a Champions League side in multiple positions could be exactly what Clement needs, and Rangers fans will be hoping that a deal for Daniliuc is one they can get over the line as soon as possible.
