Rangers player compo twist emerges after recent boardroom 'Revelation' - report

Rangers may have helped themselves in their compensation battle with Aberdeen over Connor Barron over a “revelation” made at this week’s AG, according to the Sunday Post.

In an article for Sunday’s print edition [8 December, back page], Stewart wrote that the case is expected to take place in the new year due to the heavy festive fixture programme.

The Dons rejected the Gers offer of £525,000 for the midfielder six months ago and the matter was referred to the SPFL in September as a result.

The report also claims that the Ibrox club believe the recent revelation (5 December) that they made just £810,000 for the sale of five players should help their case, showing that good players regularly leave for modest fees.

Rangers could do without the distraction

Off-field issues have been a constant at Ibrox this season, with Philippe Clement’s side seemingly distracted by the chaos.

That is still the case, with the club still looking for a new chairman after Malcolm Offord pulled out of negotiations.

They cannot afford to let the Barron case become another distraction. His impressive form will likely lead to a higher fee than the one rejected in September.

The Gers should take that on the chin and move on to focus on issues on the pitch rather than dragging their heels on the matter.

They currently find themselves third in the Scottish Premiership, 14 points behind Celtic and five behind Aberdeen.

However, they have one game-in-hand on their arch-rivals and two on the Dons, and Clement will be hoping that the 6-0 victory over Kilmarnock will revive their season.

The Belgian is still under heavy pressure at Ibrox and could do without distractions from the boardroom as he battles to keep his job.

For more Rangers news, Kris Boyd has urged the club to offer one star player a new contract as soon as possible.
