Rangers set for transfer windfall with £4.2m exit now close - report

Rangers are set to sell Sam Lammers to FC Twente this summer and new details have now emerged via Andrea Losapio.

The Tutto Mercato Web journalist reported via X on 24 July that the Light Blues are gearing up to offload the Dutchman for a fee in the region of €5million [£4.2m] with a three-year contract lined up for him to sign.

Losapio had reported via the TMW website earlier the same day that the 27-year-old was now just one step away from a return to the Eredivisie where he had thrived on loan at FC Utrecht last term.

Lammers signed from Sampdoria last summer for around £3.5m [Daily Record] but struggled badly at Ibrox.

Philippe Clement set for Rangers windfall in FC Twente sale

Lammers may have only scored twice for the Light Blues in 31 appearances after never settling properly in Glasgow but his form in the Netherlads was vastly improved.

Netting 11 times in just 20 games should have meant an unlikely profit was possible [Rangers Review, 29 May] considering it was a scoring record that surpassed anything the forward had managed for a number of years before Michael Beale decided to buy him.

It was his Gers contract that has so far proven to be the main issue as a return to FC Utrecht proved impossible [AD Voetbal podcast, 15 July] when he wanted to be paid three times what they could afford [Daily Record, 17 July].

NEC Nijmegen manager Rogier Meijer then confirmed that Lammers had rejected a move to his club [Scottish Sun, 21 July] and it was starting to look like Philippe Clement might be stuck with a player he had no use for and had already dropped into the B Team.

Sam Lammers is about to leave Rangers to join FC Twente.

So if the Twente move can be done, and for the numbers that have now been suggested, it would provide a hugely-welcome satisfactory ending for the Gers boss.

He needs to shift players to generate space and funding to make important signings before the season starts so getting this one tied up as a matter of urgency is vital.

In other Rangers news, a Light Blues ace has lost his prominent shirt number to a dynamic new arrival as he heads towards the exit at Ibrox.
