Connor Goldson reportedly has issues with the Rangers management as he nears a transfer exit, according to 24 Sports.
The Cypriot outlet claimed via their website on 23 July that the exit-linked defender’s relationship with the management is not great as the club look to offload his expensive contract.
Goldson is expected to leave this summer [Rangers Review, 23 July] amid links to Aris Limassol who he is believed to have flown out to visit in the past few days [This Is Mappa, 21 July].
He was subsequently pictured back with the Light Blues squad for the trip to face Birmingham City but a deal is reportedly still in the offing [Scottish Sun, 23 July].
Rangers problems between Philippe Clement and Connor Goldson?
Philippe Clement caused some surprise when he dropped the Light Blues’ vice captain for the Scottish Cup semi-final victory over Hearts last term [David Edgar, 21 April] after the defender’s form had dipped over the course of the campaign.
But there has been no obvious indication of issues between the two otherwise in the way that there has been hints of a rough relationship with Todd Cantwell, as well as reports in Scotland [Daily Record, 22 July].
It may be simply a matter of the manager being ruthless in his attempts to move on the old guard at Ibrox and Goldson’s understandable disappointment at losing his standing in the squad.
But with an exit on the cards in the near-future it looks like being rendered a moot point either way.
The 31-year-old has been an important figure in the Rangers dressing room for a number of years and the fact that he has remained the top central defender until very recently illustrates that difficulties in defence would have been more severe with out him.
But now appears to be the right time for the former Brighton man and the Gers to part ways so if Aris Limassol can complete a more or interest in England comes through it looks like Goldson is due to follow captain James Tavernier to the exits soon.
In other Rangers news, a striker who wants to play for the Light Blues has now got a surprise medical booked.
