'Sorry reading' - Moxley worries for Everton after yet more twists and turns

Neil Moxley has suggested that the Everton ownership situation could still have more twists after Dan Friedkin ended his takeover pursuit.

The Toffees have been plunged back into crisis after the Roma owner ended his takeover pursuit due to debt owed to 777 Partners [The Athletic].

This is a large setback, likely to hit the club hard financially which, in a column for the Sunday People on 21 July (21 July), Moxley has spoken out about.

He said: “The timeline of events at Everton makes for sorry reading. Ever since the club was referred to an independent commission, in March last year, they have just bounced from one problem to another.

“The current setback involves the club’s largest shareholder, Farhad Moshiri, failing to reach an agreement with the latest group to signal an interest in buying the club.

“It’s got more twists and turns than a whodunnit and not in a good way.”

The ownership situation at Goodison Park is far from simple and will not be an open-and-shut case for prospective new buyers moving forward.

Solvency experts A-Cap have taken control of the debt that the Toffees owe to 777 Partners and the company itself.

This throws another spanner in the works of a deal which already looked like a complicated one for Moshiri to navigate.

Being involved with the American company appears to have been a mistake with them now being taken to task by Leadenhall Capital Partners.

There is a chance that at the end of the case debt collectors are knocking on the doors at Goodison for the money owed to 777.

This would all depend on the loan agreements put in place by the club when the money was borrowed for running and stadium costs.

Although all this could be damaging, losing Friedkin from the ownership race after moving so close certainly stings.

In other Everton news, an update on Andy Bell and George Downing has emerged after the Friedkin Groups’ takeover collapse.
