Sam Lammers doesn’t have the right mentality to play for Rangers and it is clear that he has no future at the club, says Derek Ferguson.
The Light Blues have been struggling to offload the forward this summer after hopes were raised of a transfer profit after his rejuvenated loan spell with FC Utrecht [Rangers Review, 29 May].
But Tutto Mercato Web reported on 24 July that the 27-year-old is now one step away from a return to the Eredivisie with FC Twente.
Ex-Ibrox midfielder Ferguson is therefore hopeful that the form Lammers showed in the Netherlands last term could now see Philippe Clement receive a much-needed boost to his transfer budget for a player who is categorically surplus to requirements in Glasgow.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “Lammers did extremely well when he was over in Holland so he’s a player where you could maybe get a few bob for him.
“There’s no future for Lammers. He’s going to have to get his agent working overtime to seal this move.
“It’s clear when you’re left behind he’s got no future at Rangers.
“All Rangers fans [feel] he came, he couldn’t handle it, the mentality for playing at Rangers.
“I’ve spoken about this often enough. It’s not just about what you do on the park, it’s how you cope with everything in and around Glasgow, and he’s not coped.”
Sam Lammers set for Rangers exit to FC Twente
Lammers’ wages in Scotland have seemingly prevented Utrecht from bringing him back as he would have had to take a pay cut of more than half [AD Voetbal podcast, 15 July].
He also rejected a switch to NEC Nijmegen [Scottish Sun, 21 July] as frustration grew about his future after he was left with the B Team by Clement.
So if Twente can afford him and he is ready to there it would be a welcome solution for all involved and bring to an end an Ibrox move which comprehensively proved to be a misstep for player and club.
