FFP issues emerge amid update on bids for exit-bound Rangers attacker - report

Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County both have FFP concerns they have to address before they can sign Scott Wright from Rangers, according to TEAMtalk.

A report on the outlet’s website on 23 July indicates that the Scottish winger is wanted by the two English Championship clubs but no offers have yet been forthcoming.

Both the Rams and the Owls are said to need to sort out their finances in-house before making any moves for the exit-linked Ibrox man.

Wright is also said to have transfer interest from unnamed sides abroad as he closes in on an expected departure [Darren Witcoop, 23 July].

Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County want Rangers winger

On his day Wright is more than capable of putting in a quality performance but he has been on the periphery at Ibrox for some time.

After barely cracking 1,000 minutes across all competitions last season [Transfermarkt] his space on the wage bill and any potential fee is likely to be worth more to Philippe Clement at this stage.

The 26-year-old ran the show in a rare sparkling display against Benfica last season but few of his teammates joined in as the Gers went out of Europe, and that sort of performance has been too rare in a Light Blue shirt.

Moves fell through a year ago and his is arguably stagnating the longer he stays as an outside option in Glasgow.

Rangers Sam Lammers
Sam Lammers at least seems to be about to leave Rangers but more will need to follow.

It has clearly proven far more difficult to shift players than hoped this summer, even where there is reported to be significant interest, and FFP hurdles with Wright’s suitors will only add to that.

A breakthrough has been made with Sam Lammers at least as the unwanted Dutch forward is on the brink of a move to FC Twente that is tipped to net a valuable profit [Andrea Losapio, 24 July].

Similarly Ianis Hagi is said to have agreed terms on a move to send him to Fiorentina [SportpeSure, 21 July] so if progress could also be made with Wright it would be of benefit to the manager to move on a trio of attackers he doesn’t have big plans for in order to bring in his own targets.

In other Rangers news, claims have emerged of issues between a senior player and the Ibrox management as a transfer exit nears.
