Cyriel Dessers could be set for an “unexpected” move away from Rangers in the upcoming transfer window, according to Le10sport.
Saint-Etienne have the Nigeria international on their radar ahead of January and could seize the opportunity to get a hold of his signature in the coming month.
Philippe Clement doesn’t see the 30-year-old as an essential part of his plans at Ibrox [Soccernet.ng, 6 December], and the striker could decide to leave.
Cyriel Dessers surplus to requirements at Rangers
Dessers has become surplus to requirements at Rangers after the emergence of Hamza Igamane in the first team.
The Moroccan has pipped the Nigerian in the pecking order after scoring some crucial goals for the Gers in recent weeks.
Danilo is another number nine that Clement has after his return from injury, and the Brazilian also seems to be preferred over Dessers in the squad.
Rangers relied on the 30-year-old at the start of the current campaign, but the centre-forward left many frustrated with his inconsistency and lack of work-rate on the pitch.
Igamane is also attracting transfer interest from the likes of Everton [TBR, 17 December], but if the Light Blues had to sell someone, it should be Dessers.
While the Nigerian’s presence provides depth to the Gers’ attacking ranks, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the striker wanting a move to France due to a lack of minutes at Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, a Chelsea midfielder is on the Bears’ radar amid competition from Premier League outfits.
