Rangers midfielder Ianis Hagi has shared his thanks to the clubs that tried to sign him from Rangers in the summer transfer window.

The Romanian has insisted that he is now ready to fight for his place in Philippe Clement’s squad after a summer of speculation and demotion to the B team.

Several teams wanted the 25-year-old with Romania head coach Mireca Lucescu sharing that “all the teams in Romania” wanted him during the window [Sport, 5 September].

Speaking to Prima Sport (8 September) the attacking midfielder also added that he doesn’t want to share the names of those who tried to acquire his services.

“I want to thank those who contacted me, I don’t want to give names,” he said.

“They spoke to me very well, in superlative terms, but my fight is outside.”

Rangers need to make new Ianis Hagi decision

Although the transfer window has been full of rumours surrounding the future of Hagi, it feels a bit backwards for Clement to not want to at least give him a chance to prove his worth.

One area they didn’t manage to recruit in throughout the window was in the number 10 role and while Tom Lawrence has had a decent start to the season, Rangers don’t have many options to fill the hole.

Mohamed Diomande was tried there during the first Old Firm of the season against Celtic but the Ivory Coast international failed to live up to the standards expected of him [Andy Newport, 1 September].

So, if Hagi isn’t going to be exiting Ibrox any time soon and is ready to fight for his place in the squad, it feels silly for Clement to leave the midfielder out.

Especially when it’s abundantly clear that something needs to change in terms of results.

In other Rangers news, the Gers could sign a free agent as a potential James Tavernier replacement.
