Rangers teen in contention to play v FCSB after wowing in B team - report

Zak Lovelace could be named in the Rangers squad to face FCSB in the UEFA Europa League at Ibrox on Thursday 24 October, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper reported via their print edition (page 55, 24 October) that the 18-year-old is in Philippe Clement’s thoughts ahead of the Europa League clash with the Romanian outfit.

This comes after Clement watched the teenage striker help David McCallum’s B team beat Stenhousemuir 4-1 in their SPFL Trust Trophy last 16 encounter on Tuesday (22 October).

This news proves that talent like Lovelace need not always be among the goals to be rewarded for a good performance.

His biggest involvement against Stenhousemuir was in the build-up to Findlay Curtis’ opener, dribbling down the left-hand side before delivering a low cross, which the goalscorer bundled into the net after a deflection from Danilo.

Although the former Millwall starlet had a chance to get on the scoresheet before the break, he could not do so and ended the game without a goal or assist.

Nevertheless, he could now find himself in Clement’s squad for a European night under the lights at Ibrox.

This would be a huge boost for Lovelace as he was mooted to leave the club on loan towards the end of the summer transfer window after failing to impress the Belgian (Daily Record).

It is worth noting that he has already made four senior appearances for Rangers, with his debut coming in a 3-1 League Cup win over Queen of the South at the age of 16 in August 2022.

In other Rangers news, this manager has been tipped to be in contention to replace Clement at Ibrox.
