Rangers title prediction made amid Dessers 'Fear Factor' claim

Scott McDermott doesn’t believe Rangers will win a Scottish Premiership title with Cyriel Dessers as their number one striker.

The Gers’ striker may well be the club’s top scorer this season but the amount of chances he’s missed has raised question marks about the future of the Nigeria international.

Speaking on the Daily Record’s Hotline Live (12 November), McDermott shared his verdict on Dessers while making a comparison to Celtic’s Kyogo.

“I’ve always said for me, see if he was second choice striker, he’d actually be doing a decent job,” McDermott said.

“The big thing for me is, can Rangers win a title with Dessers as their main number nine, I don’t think so.

“I don’t think when Rangers go to Celtic Park that there’s enough of a fear factor for Celtic going up against Dessers.

“I flip that the other way and I see every time Rangers go play Celtic the Rangers defence looks petrified at what Kyogo might do to them”.

Rangers need to sign a striker in January

Signing a number nine to challenge Dessers for the starting spot in the Gers’ team was supposed to be one of Clement’s priorities in the summer window.

Instead, the Nigeria international has ended up being the only logical choice within Ibrox to become their focal point, with Danilo still struggling to get fully fit.

Indeed, Hamza Igamane was brought in during the summer and even though there have been glimpses of quality on show from the Morocco international, he’s still not yet quite there in terms of starting.

He’s still young of course and has plenty of time to develop his talent and become a better player but Clement needs a solution to his attacking woes now otherwise they could find themselves falling even further out of the title race.

Aberdeen and Celtic are both nine points clear of third-placed Rangers and unless a striker is brought in during the January transfer window, it’s hard to see how the Ibrox outfit will be able to remain competitive.
