Rangers to enter club negotiations over another 7-figure striker signing - report

Rangers and WSG Tirol are about to open transfer negotiations over a move for Mahamadou Diarra, Africa Foot reports.

According to the outlet’s website on 12 August the Light Blues want the 20-year-old striker for around €2million [£1.71m] and have already started discussing matters with his agent.

Several European sides are said to have the youngster on their transfer lists having completed just one season in the Austrian Bundesliga after arriving from Stade Malien last summer.

The Light Blues have already signed one young striker this summer after bringing in Hamza Igamane from AS Far Rabat after agreeing a deal for a reported £2.5million [Scottish Sun, 22 June].

Since Igamane has been a non-factor in Glasgow so far and Danilo is still not at 100% after his injury-hit season last term the responsibility has once again fallen on Cyriel Dessers’ shoulders.

It looks like Philippe Clement and Nils Koppen may have decided to abandon any hopes of bringing in a big-money established striker as the transfer deadline approaches and are looking to land another emerging talent instead.

Igamane was prevented from going to the Olympics with Morocco in order to get a fast start in Glasgow, but that hasn’t worked out at all as he only recently joined team training.

Dessers has two goals in three games and will almost certainly start again against Dynamo Kyiv at Hampden.

But after Sam Lammers was sold to FC Twente most would have expected Clement to go after another goalscorer.

He has been hampered by an inability to shift unwanted incumbents [Sky Sports, 12 August] but a late push looks to be under way to land a potential rising star in Malian Under-23 international Diarra.
