Ally McCoist cited the poor recruitment at Rangers when reacting to news that Edu will be leaving his role at Arsenal.
The 46-year-old has been the Gunners’ sporting director since 2022, but his tenure at the North London club is coming to an end [ESPN, 4 November].
McCoist admitted that Rangers are suffering at Ibrox due to their decisions in transfer windows, as pressure grows on Philippe Clement.
“My club is currently suffering from really poor recruitment,” he said live on talkSPORT [4 November, 9:50].
Rangers are struggling for success
It’s no surprise that the uncertainty off the pitch has affected the Light Blues’ performances this season, with the club struggling to challenge Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
While John Gilligan has assured the Ibrox faithful that the Bears aren’t rudderless in the absence of a chairman and CEO, that isn’t reflected in the league this season.
Clement’s future at the club has been subject to intense scrutiny, and the 2-1 win over Motherwell in the Scottish League Cup semi-final on 3 November has only seemed to delay his possible exit.
In terms of recruitment, Nils Koppen and Clement cannot be blamed massively as they were given little to no funds before the sales of big names over the summer.
Connor Barron, who arrived on a free from Aberdeen before a possible tribunal fee, has been undoubtedly the best signing at Ibrox.
The likes of Robin Propper have not been good enough, while Jefte has to do more than just glimpses of promise to prove himself down the line.
There is a long way to go, but there has to be a shift very shortly before the season is written off completely.
In other Rangers news, Jefte has been destroyed on BBC after what he did against Motherwell.
