Manchester City could have to wait until the end of March before a decision is published in their 115 charges case, sources have told Football Insider.
Man City were dealt the charges by the Premier League in February 2023 for allegedly breaching the financial fair play (FFP) rules over a nine-year period between 2009 and 2018.
The English champions are alleged to have concealed payments through third parties by disguising them as sponsorship revenue.
An independent commission hearing into the 115 charges started on 16 September and is due to end this week after it was scheduled to last around 10 weeks.
Sources have told Football Insider it’s going to take a significant amount of time for the tribunal to make a decision and write up the verdict, with the end of March a likely timeframe for it to be published.
Man City and Premier League could see potential appeals blocked
Man City are expected to appeal against any potential punishment after their lawyers have been adamant the club haven’t done anything wrong since the charges were handed out over a year-and-a-half ago.
Football Insider revealed on 17 August the case is unlikely to reach a full conclusion until late 2025 if any appeals are launched against the verdict.
But sources have told Football Insider the tribunal will be looking to ensure the judgement stands up to any scrutiny from either party, limiting the potential for any appeals.
The Times reported on 13 November Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United have lodged legal notices reserving the right to seek a payout if Man City are found guilty of serious breaches in the case.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider Pep Guardiola’s side will face compensation claims from multiple Premier League clubs and even non-English sides if the charges are proven.
