Tam McManus has been left amazed by a Rangers fan implying that Cyriel Dessers is a better striker than Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi.
Dessers has had plenty of criticism thrown his way this season due to his rather mixed form in the final third.
The striker may well be one of Philippe Clement’s top scorers, but Keith Jackson believes his all-round play often seems to negatively impact the style of play for the entire Rangers team.
With this in mind, it’s not a surprise that McManus was left aghast by a Gers fan comparing Dessers to Kyogo and even suggesting the Nigeria international was better than Celtic’s talisman.
“Got to love the narrative the pundits are determined to create over Dessers,” the fan wrote via X (3 November)
“Dessers has out-scored Kyogo since the start of last season, yet you’d never hear a pundit create a narrative about Kyogo, funny that.”
To which, McManus replied via his personal X account (3 November): “Wow”, along with three laughing face emojis.
Cyriel Dessers needs to be axed from the Rangers starting XI
Statistically speaking, Dessers looks to be the ideal striker for a team looking to compete for their league title each season.
The striker has bagged many goals since his arrival at Ibrox last season and was the Gers’ top scorer last term.
While scoring is all well and good, if it can’t be done consistently then a striker is worth nothing. However, to be fair to the Belgian, he hasn’t had much of a choice outside of Dessers for the focal point of his attack this season.
Danilo has been injured for most of the 2024/25 campaign and Hamza Igamane was brought in to be an understudy.
The fact Rangers are third in the league should be a major cause for concern for all those involved at the club and, unless players such as Dessers step their performances up a gear, they might as well kiss their title hopes goodbye.
In other Rangers news, the time for James Tavernier to be a guaranteed first-teamer has now surely come to an end after what he did.
