Nedim Bajrami has been torn to shreds by Billy Dodds after his missed chance for Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic on Sunday and rightly so.
The Gers ended up getting beaten 5-4 on penalties by their arch-rivals after what was an exciting end-to-end game that ended 3-3 by the end of extra time.
Philippe Clement’s men put up a more than decent fight against Brendan Rodgers’ team but in the end, the Bhoys just had the rub of the green in the shoot-out as Ridvan Yilmaz was the unfortunate villain.
There were plenty of chances for Rangers to take their goals scored up to four but unfortunately for the Ibrox outfit, things didn’t go quite to plan with Bajrami getting singled out for his missed chance.
Rangers found themselves in a four-versus-two situation during the moment in question but it seems that the Albania international didn’t have his goalscoring boots on as he “squandered” the opportunity.
“Celtic are rocked. It’s Taylor again caught in possession. You’ve just got make a pass there. Cerny robs him and then they get a four v two situation, which soon becomes a four v one,” he said live on BBC Radio Scotland (15 December, 16:46pm).
“If the right pass is picked it’s Rangers two up. Bajrami, he’s squandered an unbelievably good opportunity.”
Nedim Bajrami needs to do better for Rangers
The addition of Bajrami was one of Clement’s marquee signings of the summer transfer window.
The Albania international was brought in to be the Gers’ new number 10 but right now it seems like Ianis Hagi has made that role his own.
The former Sassuolo ace once again failed to impress for the Gers and has likely left many fans questioning whether acquiring his services in the summer was the best use of their money.
While he had a decent start to life at Ibrox if he wants to live up to his £3.4million pricetag (Sky Sports), he has to do better and show up in the important games, otherwise, he may as well be shown the exit door.
Especially when the recent form of Hagi over the last few weeks is taken into account.
