'It's Shocking' - Neil Lennon furious at what both Rangers & Celtic did at Hampden

Neil Lennon wasn’t pleased with either Old Firm team’s set-piece taking in the first half of Rangers’ Premier Sports Cup defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park.

Both teams wasted good chances to threaten the goal in the opening 45 minutes but corner kicks were easily batted away by both defences.

Greg Taylor’s 56th-minute goal came from a corner kick but ex-Celtic boss Lennon and former Rangers right-back Alan Hutton clearly weren’t impressed by what they saw before that.

Speaking on Premier Sports 1 during the first half (03:58pm, 15 December), Hutton said: “That’s corners for both sides.”

Lennon interrupted to say: “It’s shocking. It’s shocking, Alan.”

Hutton replied: “They’ve been poor, haven’t they? Both sides. And you know how important they can be on days like this.”

Rangers v Celtic goal-fest comes as big surprise

That was breathless, wasn’t it?

It was a very energetic first half but before Nedim Bajrami’s 41st-minute goal, it didn’t look as though the game was going to pan out the way it did.

Lennon was right – the deliveries into the box in the first period were terrible with both teams culpable of giving defenders too easy a time at dealing with them.

Celtic’s Taylor did eventually score from one but even then, it was a bit of a mess with the ball dropping down to him before his shot, which then went in via a deflection of Nicolas Raskin.

The goals then erupted in the second period, leading to the game going to extra time, which was more of a timid affair as managers tightened their teams up and players grew tired.

In other Rangers news, Hugh Keevins has shared what a sensible Gers shareholder has told him about a sack decision on Clement.
