Reece James sends message to Chelsea women after in-person reveal

Chelsea captain Reece James sent a message of support to the club’s women’s team following their 1-0 over Aston Villa on Friday (September 20).

The 24-year-old was in attendance at Kingsmeadow to watch Chelsea women secure all three points in their first WSL game of the season.

Twenty-seven-year-old Johanna Rytting Kaneryd’s 36th-minute strike was enough to earn Sonia Bompastor her first win since taking over from Emma Hayes earlier in the summer.

Bompastor, 44, has been tasked with winning Chelsea’s sixth consecutive WSL title, and finally win the UEFA Women’s Champions League title that eluded Hayes.

Reece James shows support for Chelsea women

James is yet to play for Chelsea this season, suffering yet another injury setback that has seen him miss their opening five Premier League games.

The right-back missed a total of 38 games across all competitions for the club last season after being named captain by ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The England international took to Instagram to share an image of him at Kingsmeadow watching sister Lauren James among others.

James replaced goalscorer Rytting Kaneryd for the final five minutes of the game following a stellar season that saw her score 16 goals in 29 appearances last campaign.

The men’s team face West Ham in Saturday’s (September 21) early kick-off as they aim to win their third consecutive Premier League away game.
