Kris Boyd has blasted Robin Propper as unreliable after being on the bench for Rangers in the Kilmarnock clash on Wednesday.
The former Gers forward has shared his scepticism regarding the centre-back after he was hauled off in the 1-0 win over St Johnstone at half-time on 1 December with an apparent injury but managed to train later and featured in the squad at Ibrox on 4 December.
In his column in The Sun [6 December], Boyd wrote: “As for Robin Propper? You can’t even guarantee he will be able to complete 90 minutes. Was anyone surprised when he came off against St Johnstone? I had my concerns over his afternoon as soon as Benji Kimpioka ran him for the first time.
“It was remarkable he again went off with an injury but was fine to train and be on the bench against Kilmarnock.
“You simply can’t rely on Propper, and that is another reason why John Souttar’s contract is crucial. He has been Mr Reliable for Clement in the first few months of the season and will continue to be.”
The Bears Derek McInness’ team 6-0, with Souttar and Leon Balogun forming a resolute partnership at the back.
Robin Propper needs dropping at Rangers
Propper signed for the Gers this summer from Twente and was a regular in Philippe Clement’s starting lineup early in the season.
After some underwhelming displays, the Dutchman has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks, and Balogun has rightfully earned his place in the team.
When the 31-year-old has featured, he has looked all over the place, and it feels like the centre-back needs time to get used to Scottish football, which is a cause for concern.
Rangers haven’t been at their best in the current campaign, sitting well behind Celtic in the league table, although the Light Blues have a chance to get their hands on a trophy with a win over the Hoops in the Scottish League Cup final on 15 December.
The Gers have struggled on both ends of the pitch away from home, scoring six and conceding six goals.
Propper has failed to fill the Ibrox faithful with confidence, and Clement would be sensible to keep the Dutch national out of the starting lineup.
The Bears’ recruitment over the last few years has been shoddy at best, and it looks like the 31-year-old could be another mistake the Glaswegian club’s hierarchy made.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton has shared a new verdict on Clement’s potential sacking.
