Report: Alasdair Gold left wowed by what he heard Archie Gray say to the Tottenham press officer
Quality on and off the pitch! ????
Tottenham Hotspur’s only permanent signing of the summer Archie Gray has taken no time in settling in to his new club.
Ange Postecoglou will have enjoyed what he has seen on the pitch with Tottenham winning their first three pre-season friendlies.
The latest of which played out in Tokyo, Japan where Spurs were able to secure a 3-2 victory over J League champions Vissel Kobe.
Next up for Tottenham is a trip to South Korea where they will have a little bit longer to take in their surroundings.
However, the likes of Archie Gray did have an opportunity to make an appearance in the community during their time in Tokyo where he left journalist Alasdair Gold absolutely stunned.
What Archie Gray said to the Tottenham press officer
The 18-year-old started the game against the Japanese outfit at centre-back alongside Emerson Royal.
However, he then returned to his more natural position of central midfield after the interval as he played alongside Lucas Bergvall.
Clearly, there is a lot to be excited about on the pitch when it comes to young Gray who looks like he is capable of playing beyond his years.
But it is not just on the pitch where the 18-year-old is impressing those around the club.
Ahead of Tottenham’s friendly in Japan on Saturday, some of the Tottenham players visited a local children’s hospital.
And Alasdair Gold admitted he was left positively shocked by what he heard Gray say to the Spurs press officer after their visit to the hosital.
“When he walked away from his interview with football.london, he could be heard thanking the press officer for the opportunity to do the event with the children,” said Gold.
“That’s not the way round it normally goes with player appearances.”
This is a huge representation of how Postecoglou looks to recruit players with their character at the forefront of the club’s decision making.
What Ange Postecoglou has said about Archie Gray
The game on Saturday was the first time in which Gray had been able to play in his more natural position in midfield.
In fact, the two games prior to the game in Japan were the first times he had actually played in central defence.
Despite this, Postecoglou had been left really impressed with Gray as he spoke highly of him after his debut against Hearts.
“Yeah no Archie did well and yeah look him, Skipp and Jamie probably weren’t expecting to be starting in our back four,” the Spurs boss said.
“But, that’s okay, you know, it’s about guys like Archie getting accustomed to how we play and how we train.”
