Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign Ademola Lookman this summer.
The Gunners are still on the market for new signings despite already sealing the arrivals of David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori. Mikel Merino is also on his way to join Arsenal.
David Ornstein revealed recently that Arsenal want to sign a new winger in the coming days, someone who can provide cover on both flanks.
Lookman is said to be on Arsenal’s radar, but GiveMeSport have revealed why the Gunners haven’t made a move for him yet.
Nico Williams is the reason why Arsenal haven’t bid for Ademola Lookman
Nico Williams has been a target for Arsenal since before Euro 2024 even began.
The Spaniard had a fantastic tournament in Germany, where his performances made him a real ‘superstar‘. He became a household name after his brilliance for La Roja.
Ornstein revealed recently that Arsenal are still interested in Williams even though a deal to bring him to the Emirates has looked extremely difficult.
GMS have now added that the Gunners are refusing to rule out a move to sign the Athletic Bilbao winger late in the transfer window.
That’s because Arsenal are aware that they can take advantage of his £49 million release clause (90min).
However, Arteta’s side remain ‘uncertain’ about whether they can convince Williams to leave his boyhood club and make a move to North London before the window shuts next Friday.
Arsenal remain interested in Lookman, but they have not made any advances to sign the Atalanta forward because Williams is their ‘dream signing’ this summer.
Nico Williams vs Ademola Lookman stats compared
Both Williams and Lookman had brilliant individual seasons in the 2023/24 campaign.
The Spaniard played 37 games in all competitions for Bilbao last season, scored eight goals and provided 19 assists. He also scored twice in the Euros, including one in the final to help La Roja win the competition.
Lookman, on the other hand, played 45 games for Atalanta in all competitions, scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists. The former Everton man also netted a hat-trick in the Europa League final last term to help the Italian side lift the title.
Williams and Lookman have both shown they can deliver on the big stage. It remains to be seen if Arsenal will make a move to sign either of them before the window shuts.
