Arsenal have bided their time on the summer transfer window waiting for the right target to become available.
The Gunners completed the signing of Riccardo Calafiori last month and are now pursuing a deal to sign Mikel Merino.
An attacker is also under consideration with Pedro Neto a player who Mikel Arteta really admires, though, there are concerns about his injury record.
Now, it has just emerged, that one of their rumoured midfield targets is expected to depart his club this window.
Real Sociedad resigned to losing Martin Zubimendi
Arsenal have been linked with a move for Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer.
Manchester United have also registered their interest whilst Liverpool are the latest club to consider Zubimendi, who is considered ‘world class’ (per Rousing The Kop) hence the steep £60m asking price.
Now, it has just come to light, that Sociedad are resigned to losing their star player, according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, via The Mirror.
It’s thought there is a feeling in the air at the Basque club that he will leave for one of the top clubs in the Premier League.
Who that’ll be remains to be seen but with Arsenal focused on landing Merino, and United intent on signing Sander Berge, it seems Liverpool are in the driving seat for Zubimendi.
Arsenal getting more value in Mikel Merino
Arsenal appear to be favouring a move for Zubimendi’s teammate Merino, who is expected to cost considerably less.
The former Newcastle United midfielder has a £25m price tag due to his contract situation – which allows him to depart on a free transfer next year.
Merino has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal so all that’s left is an agreement between the two clubs.
