Report: Everton set to miss out on 'world class' player after it was suggested a deal was almost done

Everton have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a ‘world class’ player, according to a recent report.

The Toffees stayed up with relative ease last season despite an eight-point deduction which many thought would lead to relegation.

Now the onus will be on Sean Dyche to solidify them as a mid-table club before pushing further up the league towards Europe.

Though, to do that, he’ll need to be backed in the summer transfer window and with that said, it seems he’s about to miss out on a rumoured target.

Wilfred Ndidi set to stay at Leicester

Wilfred Ndidi, who was previously hailed as ‘world class’ by The Shields Gazzette, has been long rumoured with a move to Everton this summer with some reports even suggesting a deal was close to being agreed upon.

The Nigeria international was set to become a free agent this summer with his Leicester City contract due to expire at the end of June.

However, according to All Nigeria Soccer, he is set to extend his contract at The Foxes, ending any speculation of a move to Merseyside.

The 27-year-old has been mulling over City’s contract offer for a few weeks but after careful consideration, he has committed his future to the East Midlanders as they look to retain their Premier League status under the newly appointed manager Steve Cooper.

Leicester are expected to announce Ndidi’s new deal in the coming days.

Everton will have to quickly move on

Everton can’t afford to languish and stand still, they must quickly move on to other targets of a similar profile to strengthen Dyche’s ranks ahead of pre-season.

The signing of Aston Villa youngster Tim Iroegbunam will certainly ease the blow but with Amadou Onana potentially leaving, the club need a replacement lined up and ready to go.

A telling few weeks lie ahead.
