Chris Jack rates Rangers' chances of bringing PL player to Ibrox

Chris Jack has discussed the chances of Rangers signing Abdallah Sima from Brighton and Hove Albion again this summer after a loan spell last season.

The Gers have started the transfer window quickly and have continued that after adding Connor Barron to their squad on Thursday (20 June).

They could now turn their attention to re-signing Sima, who featured heavily when fit and impressed on his loan spell last season.

Jack has suggested, on The Rangers Review podcast (20 June), that Philippe Clement may be forced to wait on any potential deal after the latest update at Brighton.

He said: “I would like to see another winger come in. I think Rangers do need another player in the wider areas. Whether that is Sima or not, I wouldn’t say it’s more than 50/50 – there’s a lot of moving parts.

“I think it’s one that Rangers will have to wait a while for that one to materialise. Brighton have just appointed a new manager and he will have to assess him first.”

The Gers are in need of rebuilding their squad this summer as they look to deal with all the departures from Ibrox.

There have been contract departures already like Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Borna Barisic, who will each need replacing this summer.

Barron has come in on a free transfer from Aberdeen and will feature in midfield in place of those who have left.

In terms of loan departures, Sima and Fabio Silva have both returned to their parent clubs after a season at Ibrox came to an end.

Although Clement probably won’t look to sign the Portuguese attacker this summer, the Senegalese international will be in demand.

He scored 16 goals for Rangers last season across 40 appearances in all competitions, which was a positive return for a winger.

They will have to wait until later in the window to sign him again, but with the player already featuring for the club last year, he won’t need a settling-in period in another positive sign.

In other Rangers news, one first-team player at Ibrox is now engaged in talks over a transfer away.
