Report: Liverpool have sent 'shockwaves' with something Michael Edwards did in the summer transfer window

Liverpool were one of the quietest clubs in the transfer market as Arne Slot stuck to his guns and refrained from splashing the cash for the sake of it.

After Martin Zubimendi rejected a move to Anfield, the Reds opted against pursuing a replacement and waited until the final week of the transfer window to spring into action.

Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa from Juventus in what turned out to be a surprising move, while they also agreed a deal in principle to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in 2025.

Another transfer that has seemingly gone under the radar is the capture of teenage sensation Rio Ngumoha, who is set to initially link up with the academy after joining from Chelsea.

And now, reports suggest Ngumoha’s arrival has taken English football by storm.

According to the Daily Mail, Ngumoha’s arrival at Liverpool has sent ‘shockwaves’ through the academy community, with the gifted teenager tipped to have a bright future.

Michael Edwards returned to Liverpool earlier this summer as FSG’s CEO of Football. He is widely regarded as one of the shrewdest operators in the game and Ngumoha’s arrival has been viewed as him laying down the marker for what’s to come in the coming years.

According to the same report, Chelsea offered more money than Liverpool to keep Ngumoha, but the young Englishman made the switch to Anfield as he was given a clear pathway to break into the first team.

Ngumoha will initially link up with the Liverpool academy

Ngumoha was spotted training with his new teammates over the international break and will use the next few weeks to get used to his new surroundings.

While his first team debut seems a mile away at the moment, Liverpool have never refrained from giving opportunities to young players over the years and won’t hesitate to do so with Ngumoha if he carries on with his development.

Arne Slot’s track record with youngsters speaks for itself, so it remains to be seen how well the young prodigy develops under the Dutchman.

For the time being, though, Ngumoha is far too young and inexperienced to play at the top level.
