Bryan King claims it would be “very expensive” for Dan Friedkin to appoint Gareth Southgate at Everton.
The ex-Goodison scout believes Sean Dyche’s position could be in trouble if he doesn’t start producing results soon.
Give Me Sport recently reported (23 September) that Friedkin has spoken to Southgate about taking over at Goodison Park should he complete his takeover. However, the Friedkin Group are planning to look at “multiple options” (via TEAMtalk, 24 September).
And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – feels that Southgate could be one of the more expensive options available to Friedkin.
“Names can be thrown around and big names at that,” King said.
“As long Dyche is still there then he has to get on with the job. The only way he can make the new owners lookup is by getting results.
“However, we know how owners work, they don’t take too kindly to poor results. Therefore, watch this space. Southgate hasn’t been a club manager for many years.
“If he was brought in, there would be a completely new staff and he would want new players. That would be very expensive for the new owners.”
Gareth Southgate to replace Sean Dyche at Everton?
It looks as if Friedkin is going to have a decision to make on Dyche.
According to The Guardian (23 September), the Friedkin Group’s takeover at Goodison Park could be ratified by the Premier League within the next six to eight weeks.
Therefore, Dyche doesn’t have long to turn things around.
Should the Toffees continue their poor run of results, Dyche could be out of the job by Christmas. However, whether Southgate would be the right man to replace him – or the right man at that – remains to be seen.
In other Everton news, Jarrad Branthwaite is set to start against Crystal Palace on Saturday 28 September.
