Report: Liverpool player now opens talks about leaving Anfield, Arne Slot happy to sell for £46.4m

One Liverpool player has now opened talks about an exit from Anfield – and Arne Slot has named a price tag.

After nine years of Jurgen Klopp holding the reins at Anfield, this summer represents a fresh start, with Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara following the German in leaving Merseyside.

Virgil van Dijk makes decision on Liverpool future

A story from TEAMtalk now states that Virgil van Dijk has given permission for a Saudi negotiator to start speaking with Liverpool about a transfer.

Slot has placed a €55m (£46.4m) price tag on the Netherlands international, which is believed to be higher than the Saudi Pro League hoped.

TEAMtalk add that officials from the Saudi Pro League are thinking about waiting until January to resume talks, instead of haggling with Liverpool, as Van Dijk will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with another club by that stage, if there are no changes to his current situation.

The Dutchman only has 12 months remaining on his deal at Anfield, so he is free to speak to other clubs and even sign a contract in January, ahead of a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

TEAMtalk believe discussions over a renewal for Van Dijk at Liverpool have stalled.

Arne Slot has plenty to think about

Van Dijk is not the only key player at Liverpool with just 12 months left on his contract.

Mohamed Salah also sees his deal expire in July 2025 – and the Liverpool No.11 is another who is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Furthermore, Trent Alexander-Arnold only has 12 months left on his contract too, and the England international’s situation is arguably most concerning for Slot.

The Liverpool No.66 is being targeted by Real Madrid.

Some players within the England camp even believe Alexander-Arnold’s friendship with Jude Bellingham could lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu on a free transfer next summer.

Therefore, Slot could realistically lose three of his most important players within one season of his reign at Liverpool.
