Report: Newcastle keen to make January move for Premier League forward Alan Shearer hailed ‘outstanding'
Shearer would approve! ????
Newcastle United will be looking to rectify their issues from the summer in the upcoming January transfer window.
The 2024/25 season has not exactly gotten off to a flying start for Eddie Howe’s side with Newcastle slumped down in the bottom half of the table.
A turbulent summer in the transfer market has seemingly resulted into an underwhelming start on the pitch with the Toon failing to make any real improvements to their squad.
Newcastle failed to sign Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi over the summer who was their main target despite the hefty price tag.
But the Magpies may already have turned their attention towards another target from a different Premier League side ahead of January.
Newcastle keen to sign Bryan Mbeumo in January
According to the Telegraph, Newcastle are looking into making a January swoop for Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.
Howe is said to be facing further financial struggles ahead of the January window with a big winter addition needing to be evened out with a big summer sale.
But Newcastle are said to be discussing the Brentford forward who is currently the Premier League’s second-highest scorer with only Erling Haaland (11) returning more than his eight goals.
Mbeumo netted twice on the weekend in Brentford’s win over Ipswich Town as he continues to lead the Bees following Ivan Toney’s summer exit.

Alan Shearer is a huge admirer of Bryan Mbeumo
Newcastle are actively eyeing a new right-winger with the Toon looking to bolster their squad options from Miguel Almiron.
But there is one former Newcastle player who would already approve the potential arrival of the Brentford forward in January.
Speaking to the Premier League, Alan Shearer placed Mbeumo in his Team of the Week after his sensational display against Ipswich.
“Two more goals in another outstanding performance,” said the Newcastle legend.
“He kept his cool for the penalty and delivered a delicious cross that ended up being the winner.”
Given the stature Shearer has on Tyneside, his high praise for the 25-year-old will give the Newcastle fans a lot of excitement over their reported interest in Mbeumo.
