Report shares chances of Rangers re-signing player sold in 2022

Nathan Patterson will not be returning to Rangers on loan from Everton in the January transfer window, the Daily Mail reports.

According to the news outlet’s website [28 November], Everton will consider sanctioning a loan move for the full-back for the second half of the campaign but will not consider offers north of the border.

The 23-year-old joined the Merseyside outfit in an initial £12 million deal in January 2022 [Sky Sports] and had been touted with a short-term return to Ibrox to ease the growing concerns at right-back.

However, should the Gers academy graduate be allowed to leave Goodison Park, it will likely be to another English side as he looks to revitalise his stalled career.

Philippe Clement must seek alternative targets for Rangers

The right-back position has been a cause of concern for Clement all season in Glasgow, and it appears the Belgian is prepared to take action, at least for whatever time he has remaining at Rangers.

James Tavernier has finally fallen out of favour at Ibrox after a steep fall-off this season – he has paid the price for a string of mediocre performances as he heads towards an inevitable exit.

Therefore, Dujon Sterling has been handed the reins in Glasgow after spending most of his time in various positions across the pitch, and he is now viewed as the long-term option to succeed Tavernier.

However, once Tavernier departs Glasgow, there is no sufficient depth to support Sterling ahead of a turbulent Scottish Premiership and Europa League schedule, assuming Rangers progress to the knockout stages, with Neraysho Kasanwirjo set for surgery on a foot injury and a considerable spell on the sidelines.

Patterson’s return to Ibrox after three years of being left out in the cold at Everton would have been the perfect romance story for the supporters to lift the mood amid an abysmal and hopeless campaign in Scotland – but unfortunately, it is not to be.

The supporters can take solace that Rangers are planning to strengthen in the upcoming transfer window to rectify the season, but with Patterson’s return now ruled out, only time will tell who will be targeted and also whether Nils Koppen can convince anyone capable of improving the squad to move to Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, Mohamed Diomande has been slammed amid as pundit believes he has ‘vanished’ at the Light Blues.
