Mohamed Diomande has come in for his fair share of warranted criticism and failure to perform against Nice on Thursday night could spell the beginning of the end for his Rangers career.
Not only was his transfer an expensive one, but his reputation sparked excitement at Ibrox and his early career performances at the club were generally impressive.
However, things turned very quickly for the Ivorian who could be heading out the door in January if performances don’t improve, starting with Nice on 28 November.
Mohamed Diomande future in doubt at Rangers
When Rangers spend £4.3 million on a player (Sky Sports), the expectation is that they will be more than capable of holding their own in Scottish football but that hasn’t been the case for Diomande at all.
Overall, his signing has been a disaster and contributed to the “basket case” claim fired at the club in early November..
A European clash against Nice could be not only his last chance to save his career at Ibrox but also Philippe Clement’s who remains under serious pressure with what has been a dismal season for the Gers.
Quality has been lacking all over the Ranger side although it is arguably Diomande who has been the biggest disappointment and yet Clement has continued to include him in his teams.
Of course, he is still just 20 years old and still has plenty of potential but that simply isn’t enough to warrant a spot at Ibrox currently. Rangers need players able to contribute to a side capable of winning the title for the first time since 2021 and he simply doesn’t fit the bill.
Nice will provide a stern test for Clement’s side in what could be a deciding factor for various parties.
In other Rangers news, Gabby Agbonlahor was in stitches about what Ally McCoist said about the Gers.
