Manchester United are hurtling towards yet another new era and this time it’s Ruben Amorim who will be tasked with restoring the club to former glories, albeit with some of the same old transfer problems.
After Erik ten Hag became the latest United manager to get the boot, Amorim has now been appointed as the first permanent managerial appointment by new part-owners, INEOS.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been key to rubberstamp his own ways of working at the club and a number of changes behind the scenes have taken place.
Now, attentions are turning to on-field matters and after appointing Amorim, United’s board will be expected to back the new man with funds to build his own squad.
However, in what some will feel is a case of deja-vu, United face missing out on one key target due to astronomical wage demands.
Alphonso Davies want £10m signing on fee as Manchester United eye new left-back
According to a report from GiveMeSport, United are still very keen on signing Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.
Davies is out of contract in the summer of 2025, meaning a scramble of Europe’s top clubs are going to battle it out.
United are known to be admirers of Davies and TBR Football has learned that United officials have even made contact with Davies’ camp recently.
However, there is a major sticking point to any deal as well, with GMS now reporting that Davies will not only ask for £240,000-a-week in wages, but also a £10m signing on fee.
United and Ratcliffe are keen to ensure they don’t overpay in the market anymore after big signings like Anthony, Casemiro and more have failed to pay off.
Davies, who has been lauded as an ‘unbelievable‘ player for his work in Germany, is also wanted by Real Madrid, who are considered favourites for his signature at this moment in time.
