Report: West Ham have decided to make 'direct' Championship player their top target to sign this summer

West Ham United have made a highly-rated EFL playmaker their top target this summer transfer window, according to a recent report.

The Hammers will be a completely different side under the stewardship of Julen Lopetegui, as he’s expected to implement a possession-based style.

That will require a number of new profiles to be added to the squad and after signing talented Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme, they are now focussing their attention on an EFL attacker.

West Ham make Jaden Philogene a top target

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham United have made Hull City’s highly-rated playmaker Jaden Philogene their top target this summer transfer window.

The report further notes that newly promoted Southampton are also plotting a move for the former Aston Villa man, who netted 12 goals whilst laying on six assists in the Championship last year.

The ‘direct’ attacker has also been mooted with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, though, that interest seems to have cooled, for now.

Philogene is viewed as the ideal addition for West Ham, as they attempt to boost their homegrown quota, though, any forthcoming deal won’t come cheaply.

The cost of Jaden Philogene

Hull City’s owner Acun Ilicali has made it abundantly clear that he has no intention of selling his prized asset, as he looks to assemble a squad capable of gaining promotion to the Premier League.

“We got Jaden Philogene for €5m, now he’s €30m. But we have no intention to give him away for 30,” Ilicali said.

It seems like a tough deal to do for West Ham, though, every player has their price in most cases and particularly at Championship level, where Financial Fair Play regulations are very strict.

So perhaps a bid of around £30m will do the trick.
