Report: What ‘well-placed sources’ are now saying about Eddie Howe’s interest in England role

Newcastle United have experienced a mixed start to the 2024/25 campaign as they sit in seventh spot of the table.

The Toon went into the summer transfer window knowing they were in need of balancing the books against the PSR deadline in June.

Since the first month of the window, Newcastle have seen some considerable changes made behind the scenes with numerous departures.

One of them has been at board level with Amanda Staveley being bought out of the club and then the exit of Dan Ashoworth.

His replacement, Paul Mitchell, struggled to get the Toon up and going in the transfer window but Newcastle have still made a solid start to the season despite this.

But it seems as if there could well be another exit potentially on the cards with Eddie Howe being linked to the England vacancy.

What sources are saying about Eddie Howe and the England role

As a result of Newcastle’s frustrating summer transfer window, it has been reported tension has grown between Howe and Mitchell behind the scenes.

The Newcastle manager is believed to be frustrated with the lack of business done since the former Tottenham Hotspur chief arrived.

And this all comes as Howe continues to be linked with a move away from Tyneside.

According to the Daily Mail, sources close to Howe are claiming he is actually interested in the England job.

Lee Carsley has taken on the role in the dugout for the Three Lions since Gareth Southgate’s exit over the summer, but only on an interim basis.

However, there is also some concern inside the FA that Howe could use England’s interest to strengthen his position at St James’ Park.

Howe is a name firmly on the England radar.

Eddie Howe continues to do fine job at Newcastle

With the PSR deadline seeing the Magpies part with Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, there’s an argument Newcastle actually got weaker over the summer.

With that in mind, Howe is doing a seriously impressive job on Tyneside considering they are only two points off fourth spot.

But it is still early days and it will be interesting to see whether Howe would jump at the chance to manage England, if the opportunity arises.

What will be interesting to see is how Newcastle tackle the January window with Howe left so frustrated over the summer.
