Report: Why Arne Slot was furious with Luiz Diaz during Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool on Sunday

Luis Diaz shone for Liverpool with two goals against Manchester United on Sunday – but Arne Slot was still upset with the Colombia international.

The Liverpool No.7 leapt to head home a cross from Mohamed Salah to put Liverpool 1-0 up in the 35th minute at Old Trafford, before another assist from the Egypt international saw the South American slot in a second just seven minutes later.

So, why was Arne Slot furious with Luis Diaz on Sunday despite the Colombian’s double for Liverpool? Let’s take a look…

How Luis Diaz angered Arne Slot in Manchester United 0-3 Liverpool

A story from the Daily Mail now claims that the Dutchman was unhappy with the £37m man’s defensive work against Manchester United.

It is even said that Slot almost gave Diaz the Jarell Quansah treatment as a result.

In case you missed it, the Liverpool No.78 was replaced by Ibrahima Konate at half-time in the 45-year-old’s first Premier League match, the 2-0 win over Ipswich Town, as Slot felt Quansah was not aggressive enough in his duels against Liam Delap.

The Dutchman has a point

Judging by the statistics, Slot does have reason to be annoyed with Diaz when it comes to his effort – or lack of effort, rather – defensively.

SofaScore shows that the man from Barrancas won just three of the ten duels he was involved in on the ground, and also lost all three of his aerial battles.

Furthermore, Diaz lost possession on 13 occasions, while also failing to make a single interception, block or clearance.

The 27-year-old was also quite clumsy when it came to ball retention, completing just ten of his 16 attempted passes with a success rate of 63% at Old Trafford.

Of course, no supporter will care about these numbers so long as Diaz keeps scoring goals to win Liverpool points, although Slot may be wary of trusting the Colombian in huge games if he continues to show such little defensive awareness.
