Revealed: Everton blown out of the water by Aston Villa offer

Aston Villa have dealt Everton and Ipswich Town a huge blow by landing a deal to sign Jaden Philogene, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Villa offered far superior personal terms to blow their Premier League rivals out of the water.

Sources have since learned that Philogene will undergo his Aston Villa medical on Monday (15 July) ahead of the move being made official.

Everton, Ipswich and Crystal Palace had all agreed deals with Hull to sign the 23-year-old before Villa activated their matching rights clause.

Unai Emery is keen to see the winger involved in his starting XI, and the opportunity to play Champions League football played a key role in the deal.

Philogene is a product of Villa’s academy after joining in 2018, although he made just six senior appearances for the club.

He was allowed to join Hull in a deal worth just £5million million last summer where he has since levelled up his game and attracted heavy Premier League interest.

Villa took their time over the decision but ultimately opted to pip Ipswich, Everton and Palace to his signature.

Reports say the matching rights clause in his contract also included a 30% sell-on fee, meaning Villa could land the deal for just north of £13million.

Ipswich in particular can feel short-changed by the deal as they thought they had wrapped up a full agreement for the winger to join alongside Jacob Greaves.

The deal for Greaves was officially confirmed on 12 July, after Football Insider first revealed he had passed his medical and reached a full agreement.

In other news, Cameron Archer is expected to leave Villa Park for good this summer.
