Revealed: Ipswich Town make McKenna sack decision

Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna still has the backing of club chiefs, sources have told Football Insider.

The Tractor Boys, who lost 4-3 against Brentford on Saturday (26 October), have picked up just four points from a possible 27 at the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

But McKenna, 38, has a lot of credit in the bank at the club and signed a new deal in the off-season.

He led the club to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League and attracted interest from West Ham and Man United as a result.

But the Northern Irishman remained at Portman Road and pledged his future to the club until June 2028.

Sources say Ipswich chiefs feel McKenna has done a “remarkable” job to date and feel the club have been unlucky in the top flight so far this term.

The Tractor Boys are without a win this term alongside bottom two clubs Southampton and Wolves.

Ipswich take on fellow promoted club Leicester on Saturday (2 November) having already drawn away at the Saints last month.

They then travel to Tottenham on 9 November before the third international break of the new season.

Liam Delap’s summer arrival has been a bright spot for the Suffolk outfit, with the young striker already scoring five goals in nine top-flight appearances.

McKenna will be without Harry Clarke for the clash against Leicester after his red card in the Brentford loss.

In other news, Ipswich could terminate Kalvin Phillips deal – “his head is at Leeds”.
