John Wenham expects Ange Postecoglou to make seven Tottenham changes against Qarabağ FK.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur and Destiny Udogie will keep their place from the 3-1 win over Brentford (21 September).
He’s also tipped Guglielmo Vicario to be benched in place for Fraser Forster after the 27-year-old Italy goalkeeper struggled against Brentford.
Spurs will welcome Qarabağ to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they get their UEFA Europa League campaign kicked off on Thursday (26 September).
And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has named the players he expects to come in.
“Looking ahead to the Qarabağ game I think we’re likely to see plenty of changes,” Wenham said.
“I think Forster will come back in goal [for Vicario]. In terms of the back four, I think Ben Davies and Radu Drăgușin will start together. Davies did really well against Coventry City. It was a real captain’s display, and he made a vital goal-line block as well.
“I think Archie Gray will play at right-back and Udogie is likely to start at left-back. However, he could make way for Micky van de Ven at half-time.
“In midfield I could see Bentancur starting alongside Pape Matar Sarr and Lucas Bergvall. Solanke and Johnson will likely keep their places. On the left who knows, we might see a change there too.”
Ange Postecoglou to make wholesale Tottenham changes v Qarabağ FK?
Last time Postecoglou made a host of changes it almost cost the Australian. The Spurs boss made eight changes for the third round of the Carabao Cup against Coventry City (18 September).
In the end, the visitors had to rely on late goals from substitutes Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson to win the match 2-1.
Therefore, Postecoglou will be cautious with his team selection on Thursday. However, considering his side are at home, this match should be slightly more straightforward than the clash with Coventry City.
And whichever players do come in will be hoping to make an impact, with some in particular having a real point to prove.
In other Tottenham news, one “special” player could be recalled from his loan in January.
