Manchester City’s owners have invested £210million in the form of a new share issue, sources have told Football Insider.
A Companies House submission on 29 November confirmed City Football Group (CFG) – Man City’s parent company – has issued almost 24 million A Preference Shares.
Each share was purchased at £8,836, taking the total investment to £210million.
It isn’t the only investment CFG has made of this nature over the past few months after it issued £210million of A Preference Shares in June.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider he believes Silver Lake, which is the only shareholder with A Preference Shares, was the likely party behind that investment.
The American firm initially bought a 10 per cent stake in CFG in 2019, but it has since increased its shareholding to 18.1 per cent, while the Abu Dhabi United Group owns 78.7 per cent.
Sources have told Football Insider Silver Lake’s stake in Man City’s ownership group has now likely gone well beyond the 20 per cent mark if it has been behind the recent investments.
Man City have recorded huge financial success
CFG has needed cash in recent years after adding several new teams to its multi-club portfolio.
Alongside Man City, the group now holds stakes in 13 clubs in total, including five in Europe, four in the Americas, three in Asia and one in Oceania.
The Premier League champions have spent around £1.6billion on new signings since Sheikh Mansour completed his takeover in 2008.
While Man City have recorded great success on the pitch, having won 24 trophies during that time, they are also in an extremely healthy financial position.
The Manchester giants posted an overall English record revenue of £712.8million in their latest accounts for 2022-23.
But it hasn’t been completely plain sailing for Pep Guardiola’s side recently as they are currently involved in a legal battle with the Premier League after they were dealt 115 charges in February 2023.
Football Insider revealed in April Man City could be relegated to the Championship if they are found guilty of the charges.
