Revealed: Nottingham Forest held talks about signing yet another Newcastle star

Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United discussed a potential transfer for Yankuba Minteh before he agreed to join Brighton, sources have told Football Insider.

The Gambia international completed a £33million transfer to the south coast club on Sunday after agreeing a five-year deal until 2029.

Forest were also in the running to sign the 19-year-old forward and held discussions about a potential deal.

It is one of many deals that were discussed between the two clubs as they sought to ease their fears over falling foul of financial restrictions.

Despite that, Nottingham and Newcastle have done some successful negotiating this summer as Elliot Anderson made a move from St James’ Park to the City Ground for £35million.

Meanwhile, Odysseas Vlachodimos went in the opposite direction and joined the Magpies from Nottingham.

Nottingham Forest could have benefited from signing Minteh

Newcastle might have sent Minteh out on loan last season, but the teenager impressed during his spell with Dutch giants Feyenoord.

During his 27 Eredivisie appearances, the winger scored 10 goals and contributed six assists, showcasing his raw talent at such a young age.

Only three teams scored fewer goals than Nottingham last season in the Premier League, two of which were relegated, so Minteh’s attacking qualities would have been a boost for the upcoming campaign.

While Nottingham have been focusing on strengthening their squad this summer, others could be heading to the exit door as the club has put four senior players up for sale.

Two players could be sold today as Nottingham works hard to avoid any points deductions due to the profit and sustainability limit, which they’re currently expected to fall within.

In other news, former Manchester United star could be set to leave Nottingham this summer.
