Kris Boyd cannot believe Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham is up for discussion ahead of the clash against Rangers on Thursday.
The Gers will host Spurs in the Europa League on Thursday [12 December], with the former Celtic boss under increasing pressure to deliver results in North London.
However, Boyd previewed the clash live on Sky Sports News [11 December, 10:22am] and couldn’t hide his disbelief that Postecoglou’s future could be determined in Glasgow.
He said: “I think it’s a bigger game for Tottenham than it is for Rangers. Yes, Rangers are home, but I don’t think Rangers are expected to go and win the game.
“Because of all the negativity that’s been flying around and the speculation regarding Ange Postecoglou’s future, which I think it would be absolutely ridiculous if he is to lose his job.
“Because you can see that the players he’s had in terms of the injuries he’s had, he deserves time, and he’s shown that he is a good manager, and he will get it right.”
Rangers cannot underestimate Ange Postecoglou
Regardless of the scrutiny facing Postecoglou in North London, Tottenham boast a significantly stronger squad than Rangers heading into the clash.
Clement is aware of the differing levels between the sides and has been accused of making “excuses” for the Gers before a ball has even been kicked.
The Light Blues are enjoying remarkable fortunes in the Europa League in comparison to their Scottish Premiership campaign, and sit in eighth place in the league phase after the dominant 4-1 win against Nice last time out.
However, Premier League opposition is a whole different ball game, and the hosts will need to harness the power of Ibrox to make life difficult on Postecoglou’s return to Glasgow.
Rangers putting the final nail in the coffin for Postecoglou’s tenure at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would give the supporters the ultimate bragging rights over their cross-city rivals, but claiming the three points will be no easy feat.
The Gers are heavy underdogs heading into the fixture, and this could play into the hands of Clement – his players could play without the restraints of the increased pressure to perform at Ibrox and take the game to a vulnerable Spurs side.
In other Rangers news, the Gers have set their sights on signing a defender who has previously been at Ibrox.
