'Ridiculous' - Chris Sutton clashes with Everton fan live on air over Dyche sack verdict

Chris Sutton has clashed with an Everton supporter live on air over whether or not Sean Dyche should be sacked at Goodison Park.

The Toffees are currently rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table during the international break having failed to pick up a single point from any of their first three games of the campaign.

Sections of the Blues fanbase have already begun to turn on Dyche and one supporter has been quick to suggest that he would have already been sacked if Farhad Moshiri wasn’t in charge, much to Sutton’s frustration.

Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live’s 606 (8 September, 32:28) the supporter said: “The reason that Dyche has not been fired is because Moshiri is totally absent.

“There’s nobody there to fire him.”

Sutton hit back saying: “That’s just untrue, that’s ridiculous. I think you’re being slightly unfair on Sean Dyche.

“Last season, I thought he did remarkably well with everything which was going on around him and you’re talking about the three clubs which came up and they weren’t very good and to some extent, I take your point.

“They also finished above Brentford and Nottingham Forest and Nottingham Forest we know that they’ve been big spenders. You said earlier you criticised his in-game management and that’s your opinion, but he’s also done a lot of things right at Everton.

“When was the last successful Everton manager because your club has been in a mess for a number of seasons now?”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche at Goodison Park?

It is safe to say that Toffees fans are divided when it comes to Dyche. While some suggest he has done well with his limited resources, others have grown tired of his style of football and recent poor results.

The former Burnley man does deserve credit for keeping the Blues in the Premier League over the last two seasons, but that alone doesn’t mean that he should keep his job if results continue to be poor at Goodison.

As Sutton suggests, the Englishman has probably got enough credit in the bank to be afforded time to turn things around, but it will be interesting to see just how long the powers at be give him before they pull the plug.

Regardless of how involved Moshiri is, that decision will be made if Everton feel as though they don’t have an alternative option. Hopefully, results pick up after the international break so this debate can be put to bed.
