Bill Leckie has slammed Rangers boss Philippe Clement for his comments on the officiating in the aftermath of the Celtic final defeat.
The Scottish Sun reporter believes that the Belgian, Patrick Stewart and newly-appointed chairman Fraser Thornton must fight for the betterment of the game and not for vengeance.
Gers were, however, given some kind of redemption when the SFA admitted that VAR got it wrong at Hampden Park on 15 December.
Leckie wrote on 22 December: “Pity poor Philippe Clement, scarred for life by those vicious varmints in the SFA’s video vault.
“But if Clement, new chairman Fraser Thornton and CEO Patrick Stewart have anything about them, they will need to be bigger than that.
“They need to realise what power they could wield if they chose to fight not for vengeance, but for the good of the game.
“Same goes for their rivals across the city, because history tells us if they’d been denied the same penalty, they’d have been making it every bit as much about themselves.
“As for Clement? Well, I’d love to sit down and bore him to tears about how few decisions the rest of us ever, ever, ever get against his lot or Celtic.
“Then he’d know what real scars feel like.”
Rangers boss Philippe Clement in the right to make a noise
Clement’s comments are a response to what many perceive as consistently poor refereeing decisions in Scottish football.
They highlight a broader issue within the sport where pivotal matches can be influenced by errors from officials, especially with the advent of VAR.
Clement’s stance is not just about seeking retribution but about advocating for better standards in refereeing, which is crucial for the integrity of the game.
If all managers, regardless of club allegiance, were to publicly challenge and demand improvements in officiating, it could pressure the SFA to implement more rigorous training, clearer guidelines, and better technology use.
This collective push from management could lead to systemic changes, reducing the frequency of controversial decisions and enhancing the credibility of matches.
What clubs do not want is an apology after the match is over as that’s not going to do anything.
In other Rangers news, the club have made contact to seal the transfer of a striker currently leading the Golden Boot race.
