Philippe Clement may be dealing with a split Rangers dressing room as the club looks to be in turmoil in so many areas, fears Derek Ferguson.
Bad body language during preseason from the Belgian and his players, and an awkward press conference from senior defender John Souttar after the Gers were knocked out of the Champions League in controversial circumstances are just a couple of signs contributing to a feeling of discord around the team.
And while Ferguson knows nobody would ever explicitly reveal as such if there are disagreements behind the scenes he feels something is just off about the Light Blues right now.
He exclusively told Ibrox News: “They’re never going to come out and say, ‘Oh there’s a few bad apples in the dressing room, we don’t agree with the manager’. That’s never going to happen.
“But sometimes you just get a sense that everything ain’t rosy. Just watching games and watching them out there at times, the relationships between the players, camaraderie, I don’t know, it’s just not quite there.
“We’re struggling in so many departments. It’s all doom and gloom with me but it’s quite scary when you look at the position that Rangers are in at the moment.
“There’s so many areas that should be better, on the park, off the park, so when you see players starting to question a few things that sends alarm bells ringing.”
Philippe Clement managing divided Rangers camp?
There is little in the way of positivity for Gers supporters to cling to at present, with each positive step feeling like a drop in the ocean of struggle.
A 3-0 hiding at Celtic on the way into the international break won’t have done anything to improve matters in the dressing room if it isn’t united.
Captain James Tavernier was abused outside of Ibrox in the wake of that game and could potentially be offloaded before the Turkish or Qatari transfer windows close [HITC, 6 September] there is a general feeling of disarray around Clement’s side.
The Belgian’s position is coming in for questioning itself now, and while he already seems to be in an impossible position it might even be more difficult behind closed doors than is widely known.
In other Rangers news, Clement has now entered “sack territory” after he stopped making sense with controversial comments.
